Bio

I made a career change in 2002 that took me from being a fashion photographer to a real estate investor. It sounds like a huge change but in many ways it was very much like what I had been doing. I found the work to be very visually satisfying and creative. Instead of models and cameras and sets, I was creating a 3 dimensional space where people would live. I was very interested in dressing my rentals to follow current trends. I found that Lowes and Home Depot had great lighting solutions that had a high end designer feel. I quickly was able to put a team together. They were not makeup artists and stylists. They were painters and electricians. If fact, they were in many ways just a quirky as the people that I had worked with in the fashion industry. Working within a budget and delivering a finish product on a tight time line was something I had lots of experience with. I decided that instead of flipping houses it made more sense to buy them, fix them up and refinance them. You still own the property and you had the profit too. When I started acquiring tenants, I found working with them was frequently having a crazy or demanding art director. I through myself into my new industry and never looked back. Fashion photography had changed with the advent of digital and I was moving on. As time when on I stayed flexible and grounded as the bottom fell out of the real estate market. I was fortunate enough to move my assets to apartment buildings while I still had them. I’m not sure what my next move will be but I have met some interesting characters and had quite an adventure that I’d like to share. I saw Federico Fellini speak in New York when I was a student many years ago. Someone from the audience asked him where he got all of his characters. He became very animated and started waving his arms around wildly saying you just need to look around you. And it is true. Real life is all the amusement you need if you keep a sense of humor.
